Black History Month: Black Folks Camp Too – Brevard, NC

by Chaundra Grant

One of the best things about exploration can be the thrill of trying something new. That’s the premise behind Black Folks Camp Too. Founded by Earl B. Hunter. Jr, the business encourages Black people to explore the outdoors through camping.

Historically, this activity has not been a prevalent pastime in the Black community, but Hunter is working to change that. “Our mission is to remove fear,” said Hunter, “add knowledge and invite more Black Folks to camp, and enjoy the outdoor lifestyle with any and everyone!”

The North Carolina-based marketing firm works with outdoor adventure companies and brands to invite Black folks outdoors. Hunter’s experience in sales and marketing are well suited for the cause. “We promote true inclusion and UNITY in the outdoors. We treat everyone, everywhere equally! In other words,” said Hunter, “we are changing the world!”
